Arshavin transfer now imminent – negotiations in progress

Could be a Gunner soon

It had taken some review from various prominent media sources to report, but Arsenal SPOT now fully understands Andrei Arshavin’s proposed move to Arsenal is on course but not done and dusted…yet.

Arsene Wenger has not been strictly negative with answers to questions on the Russian star and also conceded on Monday that the club would compensate with a recruit who is ineligible to play in the Champions League.

The player being cup-tied could have reduced Zenit’s £20million price-tag on Arshavin, with Arsenal already bargaining for less. But the Russian club’s general director, Maxim Mitrofanov, did reveal to Sky Sports that talks are on-going between them and the Gunners – implying that a deal will hopefully be struck very soon and perhaps the next week or two.

With Arshavin’s exit from Russia now poised, Zenit’s coach Dick Advocaat has already moved to bid the 27-year-old star farewell.

“I am aware that Arsenal are interested but I don’t know any more than that,” said Advocaat.

“I’m expecting Arshavin to leave. He’s a top player and could play for any of the top teams in England.”

“Arshavin played well for us last season but he didn’t play as well as he can. There’s still more to come from him and people will see that.”

There have been unending talks of Arshavin departing Zenit since emerging in Europe’s spotlight in the summer, but he remains on the cards of the Russian giants.

That said, January had been projected as the main deadline for any move elsewhere for Arshavin and his agent Dennis Lachter has confirmed that.

“He will definitely move in January or the player and club will lose money,” said agent Dennis Lachter.

“Zenit and Andrei understand that it is time for them to part from each other.”

Lachter though, has clarified that his client was NOT at Arsenal’s training ground during his recent visit to London.

  1. :] imagine arshavin, rosicky, nasri, and fabregas playing on midfield…:p (After the injured ones recover ofcourse)

  2. You’re right man. But that would be an all-attacking midfield. We need a mean guy in there….a Vieira or Gattuso.

You can’t play with these skinny guys doing all the tricks, otherwise, if you face muscled opponents who just want to get in your faces, life will be tough.

Every midfield needs a defensive minded player….at least one.

  3. wenger should consider a player who will play in the champions league also, i am not satisfied with this ashavin buy.

  4. Lol Randy, so it probably will be a attacking midfielder for sure , but havnt you got any ideas who Arsenal are wanting to buy either, because first you wrote that they wanted to fine a defender but I (and im not the only one) think that Arsenal need a CDM that has some strenght (although we have Song, he has potential and he is growing into that role that we are so desperate for, BUT he isnt there yet…)

  5. I’m just not excited about this move. I dont think arshavin is what we really need right now.

I would rather us not buy any players until the summer. Arsene needs to use the squad he has available cuz he’s believed in them since the beginning of the season.

Lets pick up our selves and finish the rest of the season.

  6. Arshavin won’t do any harm in the midfield, and add to the flair which isn’t showing itself as often as it did last year (despite the fact that there’s arguably more talent on display this season). But arsenal need a viera figure in midfield. No question. But who is there who can do it? Scott Parker would have been ideal.

  7. no harm only awsomeness i watched the euros and he was good and wenger was there watching him in arsene we trust

  8. gogli, your absolutely right
but I also agree that we need a strenghtfull CDM

  9. i don’t know about this one. he seems like a player who would play behind the forward so im not sure where he would fit in since wegner’s insistence to play with 2 up top. he is definately a skilled player though and adds some definate depth. i feel he is hleb like on the ball but is more conifdent shooting in front of goal. he could play wide but he would drift in a lot condensing the field..

  10. Looking at the way Arsenal is playing this season and comparing it to the way they played last season, even if Flamini have stayed in London, the end-result would have been the same. Flamini seems to be missed just because he was huge last year but Song is a decent player. Diaby is a young Vieira type of player when fit. Both are young and have tremendous potential to improve. I would not by a CDM. That area is covered in my opinion. The void that was not covered is the one left by Hleb. Arshavin by is an attempt by Wenger to replace Hleb.

What Arsenal is missing right now is a world class goal keeper and a center defender.

  11. LOL Risje, there is no assurance that this Arshavin deal will happen and there’s also no assurance that Wenger will just ignore that defensive issue like that…when it’s obviously the main problem.

Let’s just cross our fingers and watch how Le Gaffer pulls the trick.
